Best way to clean tarnished antique jewelry?
I have a 25+ year old Rosary that's terribly tarnished. I've tried cleaning it with a polishing cloth, but it's so tarnished, and there's so much detail, I can't get it as clean as I want. What is the best way to clean it, without damaging the beads which are, I believe, Aurora Borealis Swavski Crystals, or something similar.
Thanks!

One way to clean sterling silver is to use plain white toothpaste and an old toothbrush.
Another suggestion is from http://eartheasy.com/live_nontoxic_solutions.htm which says to "line a pan with aluminum foil and fill with water; add a teaspoon each of baking soda and salt. Bring to a boil and immerse silver. Polish with soft cloth."
Good luck and enjoy your crystals.

My friend is a jeweler. There are several varieties of jewelery cleaners out there that are very gentle. You can find them anywhere. Walmart, hardware stores, etc. Check it out. Easy

Purchase a good metal cleaner like Never Dull. Pick a test spot & with an old toothbrush test it first unless you know for sure what kind if metal it is. Then polish the metal with a little Never
Dull into the metal. Buff by wrapping a very soft polishing cloth around the head of the toothbrush & securing with rubber band, & polish the metal to a perfect shiny clean.

I'm sure this piece means alot to you , so i would take it to your local jewellery store & have it professionally cleaned ….it wont cost much & you wont risk ruining it ….

If it's silver, try silver jewelry cleaner. It should clean right up.
Or take it to a jeweler and have them clean it up and you might want to have it rhodium plated to help keep it from tarnishing.

Try 3 tablespoons of amonia, a little dish detergent in a bowl of warm water, swish it, soak it a few minutes, then rinse and pat dry. Personally, I would have it cleaned proffesionally. It really doesn't cost much and you don't risk ruining something you treasure.

take an aluminum plate and put water in it with a bit of salt at the bottom, then place it over a cooking pan and let it boil
for about a Minut while its in the water for a minut try to turn it over with a metal thing that will turn it over easy.
then gently take it ut of the hot water and wipe it down with a soft cloth so it wont get ruined.
ps: be careful when taking the item out from the water it can burn you.

My mother always cleans her jewelry in ammonia. She uses it on all of her jewelry. She pours a cup of ammonia into a glass bowl then drops her jewelry right into the bowl and leaves it for a while.
I am not sure about the beads you have. You might want to ask a jeweler.
