That is the marking on sterling silver jewelry.

.925 silver (in other words 925/1000ths actual silver metal) is the definition of Sterling silver. Anything less is not Sterling.
However, that only applies if somebody is enforcing the rules, which happens in countries with good trade practices and enforcement. If you bought it off the beach in Mexico, the chances of it being actually Sterling are slim, since any con man can make a mark stamp that claims .925 or Sterling.

It is 92.5% silver and the rest is cheaper metal.
